Planning the annual neighborhood party? Don't forget your permit to close the street!
A Block Party/Street Closure application can be requested by contacting 645-3337. There is a processing fee to be remitted with application. Please read the application carefully. City Code states that the submitted petition(application) must bear at least eighty percent (80%) of the property owner's signatures whose property adjoins the public street being closed. We request that applications be returned in person to the Columbus Recreation and Parks Permit Office not less than seven (7) days prior to the date of the block party, but prefer thirty days (30) due to the volume of applications. Applications returned less than seven (7) days in advance may not be accepted. No application will be accepted by mail or without approval first from the Columbus Police Department, Special Events Unit and other necessary City Divisions. Their phone numbers are listed on the front of the application and advance notice of your arrival is required. If you are planning a rain date for your event, it must be stated on the petition before you collect signatures. Otherwise, the application must be completely resubmitted. If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact the Permit Office at 645-3337.
Things to keep in mind: A block party does not allow you to have alcohol in the street. You must maintain enough space to allow emergency vehicles to serve the properties within the closure. You cannot deny access to property owners within the closed area, but when getting signatures you may ask for property owners cooperation to avoid unneccessary trips.
