Recreation Facilities

Recreation Centers Section is a multi-faceted organization that provides recreation facilities and services directly to residents in Columbus neighborhoods.  It consists of 19 Neighborhood Recreation Centers, each providing programs and services designed to meet the needs of their community.  It also includes the CRPD Therapeutic Recreation Section, which develops accessible programs for the disabled community as well as improving access to all CRPD programs through a variety of accommodations.  Community Recreation also is home to the City's Free Summer Lunch Program, which provides nutritious meals to thousands of youth at 160 locations throughout the summer.

The 19 Recreation Centers are staffed by caring, professionally trained Recreators that work to create an enjoyable leisure time environment for all citizens.  Children, adults, seniors and families are encouraged to get involved at their local center by participating in programs, volunteering, joining our Community Recreation Councils or spending time with friends.  Many after school activities are available for youth such as Gymnastics Team, Basketball Leagues and Tournaments, Cheerleading and Dance programs, Wrestling teams, Soccer Teams, Flag Football, Art Programs and many others. Many programs are provided at no cost, while some are fee based.

Summer activities provided include 49 neighborhood playgrounds that are staffed with professional summer program leaders.  These leaders plan and supervise activities for neighborhood children for the duration of the eight-week summer program. The Playground Program provides many opportunities for children to get involved in programs such as daily sports and games, arts and crafts, special activities such as music, drama, dancing, chess, track and field and many others.  Summer Free Lunch Program is provided at several of our recreation facilities.

Summer camps are offered at a variety of locations and include seven Big Camps; all-day camps designed to meet the needs of families, British Soccer Camps, The Great Art Getaway, five one week specialty camps including Track and Field, Gymnastics, Football, Cheerleading and Volleyball, two Therapeutic Day Camps and our popular "School's Out" summer fitness and nutrition camps for income eligible families.  Individuals can register for a week or for the whole summer.  The camps are affordably priced and lunch is provided at most locations.
You can also visit each site on the web under Recreation Facilities for schedules
